Start playing squash
Squash for children and adults
Squash is a fast-moving racket sport that develops speed, coordination and concentration. You can start with no previous experience — for exercise and enjoyment, to make new friends, or with the ambition to compete.
Your first steps
Use “Where to play” to find a venue, then contact it to ask about an introductory session. Find out whether it offers beginner sessions, individual coaching or groups for your age.
For your first visit, bring comfortable sportswear, water and clean indoor shoes with non-marking soles. Check in advance whether the venue provides rackets, balls and protective eyewear.
For children and parents
Early sessions introduce children to movement on court, the racket and the ball through exercises and games. When choosing a club, ask about suitable age groups, coaching and the protective equipment needed.
Your child does not need to have competitive ambitions. Getting started can simply mean enjoying an activity and having a regular opportunity to play sport.
From your first session to your first tournament
As you gain experience, you can take part in friendly matches and club tournaments. Your coach or club can help you find an event suited to your age and playing level.
